The Outside
The Outside is a creative writing, horror-based, community-driven project exploring a fictional realm called "The Outside", a place that is said to appear when one reaches an "enlightenment", which is becoming disillusioned with reality and seeing the mistakes and flaws within the code that makes it up, after someone reaches that state, a doorway appears. In this True Reality, the Outside, strange creatures prowl and places distort into something labyrinthine, Objects appear, physics break. Writers contribute to this by creating said places, organizations, objects, lore, and creatures.
This site is NOT an ARG, by itself, and is NOT a real organization or real-world claims. (maybe, Blue Helios might be real and we don't know it…)
Questions Answered
Can I Write My Own Entries/Logs? - yes, you can write your own, though you must be a member of the site and once you do have a draft, you must pass it by our Greenlighters for acceptance. (Though the first few entries of their kind do not need such proccess)
Is There A Canon/Contradictions? - This does follow a loose canon, as all Logs created by writers/Witnesses are canon, though some can contradict eachother. The only completely canon thing is the Outside realm itself, and nothing can contradict its existence— obviously.
What is a Log/Witness/Filekeeper? - Logs are the given name for an entry, being any creature, place, or object. Witnesses are the authors who create these Logs. Filekeepers (and the other team, see Rules & Roles for full list of hierarchy) are the Moderators and staff that work to keep this site up and running.
How Is Reality Different From The Outside? - "Reality" is the facade and the Outside is the truth. Think of it as a stageplay, with Reality being On-Stage— the performance and facade — and the Outside being Back-Stage — the often truth and Reality of what makes up the play.
Why Does This Project Exist?
This project exists as a way for writers to express themselves artistically, it is also a fresh scope on horror, allowing for writers to truly create something new without worrying too much on lore or acceptance.
On a real and personal note, however. This exists because I grew up with communities like The Backrooms, The SCP Foundation, and Creepypastas. And now that their golden era of the 2000s and 2010s are done, I believe we all need fresh eyes. A revival. An appreciation of the forefathers who made this place even possible for me.
